the instructions you’ve listed make sense, what you can do is visit the “Appearance – Editor” admin section, open the header.php file from the right panel, remove lines 6-25 of the header.php file (starting with <title> and ending with <?php } ?>) and replace them with the code you pasted above. The live code hints that the background is not a product of the theme: the “vc” class is characteristic of the Visual Composer by WPBakery – it seems that the most likely explanation is that there’s the VC plugin installed on this website, and the grid item setting in the Visual Composer on that page generates the extra styles. Unfortunately it’s not possible to tell the exact location of the setting as I can’t see the back-end, but the place you’d have the most chances of finding it is the VC element settings (either the parent row or the element itself).

Thanks! The loading time is indeed rather slow (5.5 sec), but it’s not due to the theme’s scripts: the Ajax that is being loaded is part of some other structure, probably the ReCaptcha plugin – please try disabling it as a test and re-running the speed diagnostics.

Shogun uses ajax for specific purposes (e.g. loading more grid items), and does not load most of the content with it. Could you please provide a URL of the specific page where you’re observing slow load times, I’ll check it out using specialized tools.

We are currently not planning Visual Composer updates for Shogun, yet if you update the included VC to the latest version and face any issues, please let me know, I will be glad to help out.

Regarding the WordPress version: running on 4.9.6 (the latest stable release of the WP core) should be fine on Shogun.
