ah, got it. the culprit is actually the “$minmargin = 90;” in header-functions.php – i reduced this a bit and now get a much better fit on macbook pro/retina screens.
    thanks for the pointer.

thanks, but that’s not really what the problem is – the problem seems to be specific to page margins around the 1280-1300 pixel viewport width (or double that on retina). i’m getting a narrower content area on at 1280px viewport (or full viewport on macbook pro retina for instance) than should be necessary. it feels that if the overall page margins were reduced then the wider content would fit (are they % margins? i’m not sure where to adjust these in CSS).

if you look at http://kevingaskell.com/leader/ for instance at 1280px or full width on a retina macbook pro there are big margins left and right and quite a narrow content area, and the top menu ‘wraps’. there’s definitely room to expand the content area/container an reduce the margins and eliminate the nav menu ‘break’, but i don’t know how to adjust the content area/global container width or page margins. have been looking at the CSS but i don’t know if it’s a responsive/media query thing, margin settings, overall container etc. – and where i should be looking. thanks

ok fixed this – it was a z-index issue – needed to reduce the z-index of the caption from 100 to 10.

hi there, i finally got this sorted but the problem i have is that the hover caption on any gallery item flashes on and off several times when you mouse over or mouse off the tile in the area *where the caption is*. if you mouse over an area of the tile away from the caption position it’s fine. any idea how to fix this? thank you!

thanks very much for this – sorry for the delay – for some reason the notification email didn’t arrive when you replied to the thread.

the problem i’ve got is that i’ve set up a child theme and can’t simply replace the 3 files in your zip file because i’ve made some other modifications to some of those files. is there any chance you could let me know how/where the files vary so i can look at making the same changes to my child theme copies. any quick pointers would be useful. i think i’m ok on the content-gallery file, but what did you change on the header-functions and style.css files? thanks again

hi, related to this – i’m just trying to pre-empt something i expect i’m going to be asked – is it possible to REMOVE the filter icons on mobile (keep on tablet and desktop). could you let me know if there’s a quick CSS tweak to do that in case we need to at the last minute. thanks andrew.

    thank you SO much!

re: child themes – tell me about it, i set up a child theme and the developer ignored it and edited the parent files with zero comments! – i’ve had a nightmare with the work done to be honest! not sure i’d go that route again.

you on the other hand have been brilliant!

would you mind telling me which bit you altered, so i can take a copy of the relevant file as backup! thanks.

ok sure – that makes sense. one question – HOW do you control which images are attached to which post exactly? i seem to be able to attach an ‘unattached’ image to a post from a list, but once an image is attached how do you change it? or do you have to delete the image and add it again?
it’s not a big deal – i can work around this now that i understand the functionality.

it would be nice to be able to define images like this though! [gallery ids="929,927"]

hello – oh dear. i’m very sorry but i hired a developer from tweaky as suggested to make some changes to the theme and they appear to have reverted some files, losing the icon single click fix you made. could you tell me what you did to achieve this? sorry again!
