gallery timer circle – how to hide?

embedded galleries display a countdown timer in the corner. is there a way to hide this?

i found
«timer: true,»
in header-functions.php

when i change this to false it does hide it, but then the slides don’t advance either! i just want to hide the timer, not change the functionality…
